Irelands Eye has a lovely sandy beach ideal
for picnics or just catching a few rays away from the hustle and bustle of the
mainland.
The Wildlife.
Irelands's Eye is of national importance for
breeding seabirds.There are Fulmar; Cormorant; Shag; Lesser Black-backed Gull;
Herring Gull; Great Black-backed Gull; Kittiwake; Guillemot; Razorbill. There
is also a seal colony.
The
History.
In 1803 the Martello Tower(above)was one of three built in
Howth on the instructions of the Duke of York, to repel a possible invasion by
Napoleon. There is also the ruins of a church dating back to 700AD.
